JULY 26, 2025
ROTE FABRIK, ZURICH
Our summer festival brings the best from the Silk Road and beyond. This time we’re hosting the legendary Syrian dabke-techno king Omar Souleyman, Tunisian duo Ÿuma, farsi and cumbia psychedelic tunes from Swiss-Iranian-Moroccan-Bulgarian group Roshâni, Selin Sümbültepe from Turkey, many producers and Djs, such as American-Pakistani Zeemuffin, German Rey&Kjavik, the lovely İpek İpekçioğlu, music workshops (string instruments, percussion, djing), visual sonic lectures, live concerts, and more. Buckle up!
ARTISTS
OMAR SOULEYMAN
Most of us are very familiar with Omar Souleyman’s music; in fact, we have danced to similar fast-paced and synth-heavy songs at our family members’ weddings in the past. Yet, to pigeonhole Omar as a wedding singer is reductive. His ear for contrasting sounds, and his ability to bring joy, allow us to escape into his work. After more than 10 years, the dabke-techno king is back in Zurich and more passionate than ever.
Omar Souleyman’s 5th studio album pays homage to Erbil — the city in Iraq that offered solace and embraced Souleyman during recent times. The move to Erbil came with new experiences and friendships best celebrated in joyous songs dedicated to a new life-chapter. Erbil’s 8 tracks see the Syrian wedding singer turned global electronic music icon again, teaming up with his longtime keyboard player Hasan Jamo for an ambitious and forward-thinking techno-meets-Dabke sound.
The past several years have seen Omar Souleyman receive the GQ Middle East ‘Men of the Year’ award in 2022, noted massive live performances around the globe. Omar, who has collaborated with Björk and Four Tet, began his career as a prolific wedding singer, releasing nearly 500 live albums before civil war broke out in his native Syria in 2011. He then moved to Turkey and in 2013 released his Four Tet-produced debut studio album Wenu Wenu via Ribbon/Domino, which NPR called "...a jam so visceral, thrilling and intense as to make the mysterious matter of earthly borders seem hardly worth the time to contemplate."
ŸUMA
Ÿuma is a Tunisian global and alternative music duo, consisting of Chupee Do and Ramy Zoghlemi. Their collaboration is rooted in a deep friendship and a shared passion for blending genres such as folk, rock, trip hop, and global sounds.
Ÿuma’s debut album, Chura, released in March 2016, showcases this eclectic mix and features "Smek" as one of its standout tracks. Characterized by delicate and rough textures, the song blends traditional Tunisian influences with modern alternative tunes. Chupee and Ramy’s songwriting often explores strength and vulnerability. In Smek, they tell stories of (be)longing and nostalgia for trusted spaces at home, in their neighbourhoods, missing the smells of jasmin.
Rey&Kjavik, who is joining us this summer, released a downtempo remix of Smek back in 2017; in 2021, Ricardo Villalobos produced a remix with his idiosyncratic style.
For those of you who have been with us since day one, you’ll remember Ÿuma to be feautured on our playlists and stories. We are incredibly happy that the duo will join us this summer!
SELIN SÜMBÜLTEPE
Selin Sümbültepe, from Hatay in Southeastern Turkey, is an independent artist with two studio albums and several singles. Her debut album, "Cızgan", was released in 2017, followed by "Ben Estim Sen Esme" (2021). In 2024, she released the EP "Hemhal" (meaning "to unite" in English), produced by Zeid Hamdan, as a tribute to the culture of Hatay, which was severely affected by an earthquake in 2023.
Inspired by artists such as Fairuz, Yasmin Hamdan, Naïssam Jalal, Bariş Manço, and Aysel Gürel, she blends Middle Eastern sounds with Western influences. With her Fusion Folk Pop, she has performed at renowned festivals such as the Istanbul Caz Festival and has been featured in the Turkish media as well as on BBC's The Arts Hour.
ROSHÂNI
ROSHÂNI is a bold blend of diverse musical genres, including tropical, psychedelic cumbia, rock, and oriental disco, sung in Spanish, Farsi, and French. Their unique fusion creates an alternative organic electronic dance sound, incorporating elements of afro-dancehall and tropical beats, with rhythms ranging from cumbia to reggaeton. Led by Roxane's distinctive vocals and Inès's synthesizers and deep bass, accompanied by Yavor Lilov on drums and production, ROSHÂNI sets a captivating cosmic rhythm that compels the audience to dance.
ALMA DE BAILE presents a collection of 7 tracks that reflect the personalities and diverse music influences of Roxane and Inès. Dynamic and profound, each track weaves a mosaic of stories in various languages, celebrating themes of joy, rhythm, love, female empowerment, and independence. Recorded at the studio "La Fonderie," this EP is a collaborative effort with musicians from l’Eclair, including Yavor and Stefan Lilov, adding depth and richness to the sound.

Born Zainab Hasnain, ZEEMUFFIN is a Pakistani-born, New York-raised DJ and producer. Her foundation in music started as a classically trained violist and dancer. Her sets often seamlessly blend global sounds and genres from her New York Hip-hop roots to Afrobeats, Baile-funk to Bhangra, and through House and Dance music from around the world. Known for her infectious stage presence and ability to connect with any crowd, her talents have taken her around the world to perform alongside renowned artists like Kaytranada, Duckwrth, Ali Sethi, and Raf Saperra. REY&KJAVIK
Alexander Schomann, better known as Rey&Kjavik, is a DJ and producer from Offenbach, Germany. Listening to his music, one escapes into a world of harmonious blends of organic, deep, and tech house tunes. Inspired by his journeys to Istanbul and San Francisco, Alex’s understanding of musical motifs from the Silk Road and beyond is evident in many of his productions and remixes. His work is characterized by a unique interplay of melancholy and happiness, featuring deep bass and often dark tunes that harmonize with joyful ones. A bittersweet feeling (some might call it saudade), most of us remember from memories of the Mediterranean, Anatolia, the Levant, Southeast Asia, or Latin America.
İPEK İPEKÇİOĞLU
Based between Berlin and Istanbul, DJ, producer, curator, queer-activist, İpek İpekçioğlu creates an extraordinarily warm, dynamic, and organic interpretation of electronic music as nu-disco, house, deep house, tech house, and minimal techno. Her music melts with the melodramatic sound of Anatolia, Orient and the Middle East and she has been pushing boundaries within the ethnic and electronic music scene for more than a decade.
The Berliner Label Katermukke released her track «Uyan Uyan, Wake up», which led the Beatport charts for several months as the most successful track. She released Bir çift Turna and Gelme Bana at Epic Istanbul/Sony Music. Her remix of Selda Bagcan’s «Gesi Baglari» was released at Majör Müzik. The Canadian Souq Records released her latest Techno track «Dame Sobh feat. Hany Mojtahedy».
