Mehmet Aslan for jazzhane Kiosk - Episode 09

Mehmet Aslan is a Swiss DJ, producer and graphic designer of Turkish descent, based between Basel and Berlin. As a DJ, he has built a devoted club following through an obsessive, genre-crossing record collection and residencies spanning Basel's Hinterhof to Berlin's Renate, with releases on labels including Strut/!K7, Huntleys & Palmers, Banoffee Pies, Dischi Autunno and Ata's For Disco Only.

Beyond the booth, he emerged as an acclaimed composer with his 2022 debut album 'The Sun Is Parallel', featuring Valentina Magaletti and Nino de Elche, which earned praise from The Wire, DJ Mag and The Quietus, followed in 2024 by 'Auguri', an ambient-folk exploration of bird migration, displacement and climate change. He has performed with a live trio at festivals including ESNS and Reeperbahn, and hosts a monthly show on Refuge Worldwide, following an earlier residency on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM.

He continues to expand his practice through international residencies and collaborations, most recently in Calabria with Andreina Noce and Nairobi with Jim Chuchu.
